We are not licensed builders, damp specialists or stonemasons, we do not hold the warranty on any work, and we are not the cheapest route to a quote — you could ring three companies yourself. What we do is make sure the first person who looks at your wall is diagnosing it rather than selling one product.

Why old Hobart housing needs its own conversation

Most damp advice online is written for cavity-brick housing built after damp proof courses became standard. A 1850s sandstone cottage in Battery Point has no cavity, no course, rubble footings and a wall that behaves like a wick, and advice aimed at a 1990s brick veneer is close to useless for it. Methods that are routine on modern brick — sealing, cement pointing, waterproof coatings — actively damage soft stone.
